This year has been off to a wonderful start.
Kind of cliche, this phrase, isn’t it? But for me, it truly has been wonderful, so far. During winter break, my family and I went to Orlando, Florida for eight days staying at the Disney World Pop Century resort. Every theme park was visited besides the water park (it was too cold), a whole bunch of souvenirs were bought, and not to mention that we also rode the rides in Orlando’s Universal Studios and Sea World. The week after, I had to bog down and finish my college applications.
I got them in on time.
Around November last year (still kind of weird, last year was only 2009…) I entered Huntington’s Fairchild Challenge in the cartooning category. In a nutshell, the challenge originated from the Fairchild Tropical Botanica Garden bringing more awareness to the going green movement. Now the reason why I’m mentioning this is that I wanted to share this piece of wonderful news – I received second place for the challenge. Here’s where they announced the winners (by the by, I’m the third image down).
Along with the honor, my dad gave me a Macbook Pro as a reward (here’s the better part of the news). Mind you, I have a wonderful Macbook from about four, five years ago but the sleek, very sexy silver Macbook Pro is definitely a big plus. But I can’t abandon my lovely white Macbook, there’s just too much on it and I didn’t want to transfer all the files in the old Mac to the new.
Even the screen itself is gorgeous. I made a typographic wallpaper to match the black border around the screen. I believe it compliments the laptop well. But the desktop wallpaper was a bit of a pain to make. Each phrase was typed up and the positioned manually. I had to continually flip the image to put the text on neatly while craning my neck trying to eyeball the white space around the texts.
I got the idea of this style from the CD cover of The Police. The cover was yellow with each song title on the cover half a shade darker juxtaposed in such a way that it looks jumbled but in an orderly fashion. Doesn’t make sense does it?
Wonderful start this year. I hope the rest of you have an equally or better start!
Oh yes, I forget. I added a Photography page for those of you who like photography, or enjoy critiquing photography. I’m just an amateur so don’t judge too harshly.
